Arman Figurative Sculptures

French, 1928-2005
Arman was born in Nice, France, in 1928, and showed a talent for painting and drawing as a child. He studied at the the Ecole Nationale des Art Décoratifs in Nice followed by studies at the École du Louvre in Paris. In his early years he focused on abstract paintings. Then, in 1957, he became interested in common objects as works of art. He first did what came to be called his "allures d"objet" (object impressions), where he would dip an object into paint and press it on canvas thus leaving the object's shadow or impression. Then he decided the object itself was worth paying attention to and started to treat them in his own way. His intention was to remove the material purpose of an object so that its only remaining function was to "feed the mind" as a work of art. What better way to achieve that result than by breaking, slicing or even burning objects such as violins, telephones, typewriters or even whole cars? He also made objects useless by accumulating them, such as 2,000 wristwatches in a Plexiglass box that all kept different time. Once emotionally detached from the circumstances associated with a broken object, the viewer could grow to appreciate its abstract beauty; so, in a sense, Arman was literally teaching that things one never thought could be regarded as attractive could indeed turn out to be so. Through this achievement, Arman gained worldwide recognition and is regarded as one of the most prolific and inventive creators of the late 20th century. His work can be found in the collections of numerous museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Arman’s work has also been exhibited in galleries, museums and public spaces worldwide including the Musée D’Art Contemporain in Tehran, Iran; the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv, Israel; the Musée Des Arts Decoratifs and Opéra De Paris in France; the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art in California; and the Museum of Arts and Design and the Guggenheim in New York He died in 2005 in New York.

Arman Original Bronze Violin Sculpture Edition: HC 1/2 Signed and Numbered Bronze Dimensions: 36 x 50 x 24 cm Arman is a painter who moved from using objects for the ink or paint traces they leave to using them as the painting itself. He is best known for his "accumulations" and destruction/recomposition of objects. In October 1960, Arman, Yves Klein, François Dufrêne, Raymond Hains, Martial Raysse, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely and Jacques Villeglé, and art critic and philosopher Pierre Restany founded the Nouveau réalisme group. Joined later by Cesar, Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Christo, the group of young artists defined themselves as bearing in common their "new perspective approaches of reality." They were reassessing the concept of art and the artist for a 20th century consumer society by reasserting the humanistic ideals in the face of Industrial Expansion. In 1961, Arman made his debut in the United States, the country which was to become his second home. During this period, he explored creation via destruction. The "Coupes" and the "Colères" featured sliced, burned, or smashed objects arranged on canvas, often using objects with a strong "identity" such as musical instruments (mainly violins and saxophones) or bronze statues. The son of an antiques dealer and amateur cellist, the artist absorbed an intense appreciation for music, the art of collecting and the cultivation of discriminating taste from an early age. After studies at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, Arman decamped to Paris to study art history at the Ecole du Louvre. His work in these early years focused on abstract paintings inspired by the work of Nicolas de Staël. An avid reader, Arman sought inspiration through books and art reviews, as well as during frequent road trips throughout Europe with his artist friends from Nice, Claude Pascale and Yves Klein. 1972 Arman, Paris, Fernand Hazan, collection "Ateliers d'aujourd'hui" Otto Hahn 1973 Arman, New-York, Harry N. K.S. Radhakrishnan - Krishna - HT : 13 x W : 10 x CIR : 20 inches Bronze Sculpture. Krishna : Figurative sculpture of Hindu God by great Modern Indian Artist K.S. Radhakrishnan who has successfully brought about a defenitive resurgence in Indian sculpture. Style : K.S Radhakrishnan is one of the most notable among the new generation of sculptors. Like many of his contempories he is a figurative sculptor, but his preference for modelling and bronze casting sets him apart from the rest of them. Recharging age old sculptural processes with a new sensibility, thus is the singular challenge he brings to modern Indian sculpture. And this makes him a modernist - who approaches his work with discernible ambition and considerable aplomb while steering clear of brinkmanship. Radhakrishnan's works often drawn from the emotions and myths of the Hindu gods, such as Shiva, Kali and Radha. His sculptures are often larger than life-sized; placed in the outdoors, they evoke a superhuman atmosphere. Over the years, Radhakrishnan has experienced with alternate sculpting mediums, working in molten bronze, beeswax and Plaster of Paris. The physical process of working with the materials becomes a performance in itself. The sculpture is the product of a tactile engagement with his medium. With celebration of sensuality as one of its running themes, his works is at once both intimate and universal in its appeal. A personal commemorative sculpture, with a scale and presence that holds well in natural settings, his work has found permanent home in a number of public collections all over the world. Amici V - Contemporary Figurative Abstract Bronze Sculpture of Three People

By Nando Kallweit

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Nando Kallweit’s "Amici V" is a contemporary bronze sculpture that captures the essence of unity and connection through its strikingly elongated abstract forms. This modern figurative artwork features three faceless figures standing tall together, their textured surfaces and slender silhouettes evoking a sense of strength and harmony. The interplay of light and shadow on the dark patina enhances the sculpture’s expressive depth, making it a sophisticated addition to minimalist, abstract, and contemporary art collections. Amici V symbolizes companionship, resilience, and shared experiences, resonating deeply with collectors who appreciate art that conveys emotion through form. German sculptor Nando Kallweit produces figurative bronze sculptures and reliefs with aquiline and a graceful modern appeal. Kallweit is inspired by seemingly disparate cultures; the strength of ancient Egyptian sculptures...

Bronze Figurative Ballerina 'Dancer Seated Resting en Barre' Brown & Green

By Benson Landes

Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Edition of 25 'Dancer Resting on Barre' is an elegant yet sensual sculpture. Landes' skill at conveying a sense of ease and confidence of the dancers is impeccable - this piece would be a fantastic addition to any collection. For Benson Landes, sculpture was most definitely a passion. His oeuvre of cast bronzes is populated with ‘off duty’ ballet dancers, rather wistful women, often caught in moments of solitary repose. Such an obvious appreciation of the grace and elegance of the female form was, no doubt, heightened by 25 years spent in the couture business, which Benson entered at the age of 14. The sculptor admitted that his time as an apprentice at his father’s clothing workroom and factory was given rather reluctantly, as he always harbored desires to become an artist. The young boy’s sense of responsibility was clearly equal to his creativity, though, as Benson knuckled down and learned the family trade. At the age of 18, however, a 2 year conscription to the RAF provided one of the few opportunities for Benson to experience artistic freedom. The possibilities of otherwise unobtainable materials such as pastels, paper, perspex and plaster of paris fuelled his ingenuity at the base’s well-stocked workshop. On completion of his RAF service, Benson briefly returned to the clothing factory now owned by his father. After his marriage to Ruth at 21, in an effort to provide for his new wife, Benson decided to set up his own business. Starting with a single sewing machine and tailoress, Benson and Ruth soon expanded the business. By the 1970s they employed over 50 staff and supplied to prestigious stores such as Dickens & Jones and Harrods. As the decade progressed, however, fashion turned towards less structured, more casual garments; a trend that prompted Benson to retire and spend time with his first love, sculpture. Buoyed by the liberty he enjoyed in his studio, Benson succeeded in selling some of his first pieces of sculpture, a collection of sporting trophies shown at the 1981 Open Golf Championship, to Garrards, the Crown Jewellers. This success quickly brought important contacts and new commissions. Benson always maintained that being able to work as a sculptor is a unique privilege. Usually in the company of a model, he often worked in the studio against the soothing background of classical music. Indeed, now eminently collectable, Benson’s work provided much comfort after the death of Ruth. Benson said that the things that mattered in life are those of beauty; he truly believed that romance and elegance are necessary shields to what he saw as the sometimes too hurried manner of life today. Benson sadly passed away in the autumn of 2013. Solid Bronze Figurative Ballet Sculpture...

Model created in 1993. Bronze with green patina and green leather seat. Works signed and numbered xx/1800. Bocquel Foundry. Recorded at the Arman Studio in New York under number: APA # 7030.93.414. Arman is a Franco-American artist best known for his unique style of found object sculpture known as accumulations. Inspired by the philosophy and aesthetics of Dadaism, he brings together forks, instruments and teapots in display cases. A member of Nouveau Réalisme alongside Yves Klein and Jean Tinguely, among others, he responds to the emergence of Pop art through his own critique of consumption, waste and mass production, particularly in his series "Poubelles" in the early 1960s. For his famous and monumental sculpture "Long-Term Parking" (1982), the artist piles up 60 cars...
