Description Beautiful and highly atmospheric oil on canvas by Ramon de Capmany i de Montaner, depicting a lively Parisian boulevard with café terraces, elegant façades, trees, pedestrians, children, a nanny with a pram and a striking iron railing in the foreground. The painting has everything a strong collector’s cityscape needs: architecture, human movement, café culture, depth, light and narrative. The blue façade of “Le Barbier” becomes the visual anchor of the composition, while the figures scattered across the boulevard create the feeling of a living city, observed with intelligence and charm. Capmany builds the scene with a refined balance between structure and spontaneity. Artist Biography Ramon de Capmany i de Montaner was a Catalan painter, draftsman, engraver and bibliophile born in Canet de Mar in 1899 and active mainly in Barcelona. He trained at the Escola de la Llotja and became associated with Els Evolucionistes, a group of Catalan artists who renewed figurative painting in the early 20th century. Capmany developed a refined pictorial language based on observation, naturalism, urban sensitivity and modern composition. He was especially known for landscapes, city views, Barcelona scenes, architectural subjects and carefully constructed figurative works. He exhibited regularly at Sala Parés, one of Barcelona’s most important and historic galleries, and his work is represented in institutional and private collections. His painting combines Catalan artistic tradition with a sophisticated European sensibility. In works such as this Parisian boulevard scene, Capmany shows his talent for capturing daily life, architectural rhythm, atmosphere and the poetry of the modern city. Artistic Inspiration This painting belongs to the great European tradition of urban painting, where the city becomes theatre, memory and atmosphere.
