About the Item

16th Century Nepalese Copper Yantra with Solid-Cast Turtle Feet. A rare and visually powerful ritual object, beautifully crafted in copper with solid-cast turtle feet—two of which are slightly loose, though the piece remains in exceptional overall condition. Measuring 6.5 inches wide at the feet and 8 inches tall on its custom display stand, it is unusually large for this type. The yantra features finely incised work, a small turquoise cabochon set in the center, and exceptionally careful sculptural detailing throughout. The upper spherical chamber beneath the dome appears sealed, possibly consecrated, and may contain internal relics or offerings—though this cannot be confirmed without opening it. In over 30 years of collecting, I have found no comparable example. It has long been one of my personal favorites, carrying a strong spiritual presence and a sense of ritual potency that is immediately felt. A rare and remarkable piece of early Nepalese tantric metalwork—searching the internet will show how singular it truly is.

Located in Middleburg, VA

A richly detailed 19th-century Tibetan ritual vessel, hand-forged from copper and embellished with applied repousse and engraved brass medallions, geometric plaques, and symbolic mounts. Raised on three splayed feet, this bulbous, high-necked vessel features a domed body adorned with a dense array of ritual and decorative appliques, including stylized floral medallions, abstract symbols, and keyhole-like forms that reference tantric iconography. The vessel's expressive form is punctuated by three protruding spouts and retains its original arched swing handle with pierced brass finials. Meticulously decorated in traditional metalworking techniques, the surface patina reveals a rich, warm interplay between the copper ground and the golden brass overlay. An aesthetic that speaks to both spiritual function and ornamental sophistication. Likely used in ceremonial or domestic rituals, this vessel stands as a worthy testament to Tibetan artisanship and Buddhist ritual culture. A compelling piece for collectors of Himalayan antiques...
