About the Item

A unique decorative encaustic tile panel comprised of 15 antique tiles by 19th century English makers, Minton & Co. and W. Godwin of Hereford. Supplied loose, these tiles could be used in several ways – whether a feature wall panel, a vintage tile kitchen splashback or for a unique entrance porch. They are in reclaimed condition with timeworn wear from previous use that only adds to their heritage appeal. More About the Makers… Godwin Tiles William Godwin began manufacturing quarry tiles, bricks and drainpipes at his factory in Lugwardine, Herefordshire in 1851. In later years, William went into partnership with his son and traded as ‘Godwin & Co’, a name that would become reputable until long after William’s death in 1925. Minton & Co. To this day, Minton & Co. are considered one of the major pottery and porcelain manufacturers of British history. Established in 1793, the company was founded by Thomas Minton (1765 – 1836) in Stoke-on-Trent. Until 1845, the pottery manufacturers traded under various styles before adopting the ‘Minton’ name. Minton exhibited at trade exhibitions across the globe, establishing a firm reputation for excellence in pottery and earthenware.
