About the Item

Here is a vibrant and sculptural mid-century modern art glass bowl by Michael and Frances Higgins, executed in their signature fused glass technique. This striking example features an intricate, lace-like pattern of swirling organic forms suspended within a saturated turquoise ground, creating a dynamic interplay of opacity, translucency, and texture. The softly undulating square form enhances the visual movement, drawing the eye toward the richly layered central well. Handcrafted at Higgins Studio in Illinois, this piece exemplifies the couple’s innovative approach to glassmaking, blending painterly design with technical experimentation. The composition—reminiscent of cellular or aquatic motifs—is both decorative and distinctly modernist, making it a compelling centerpiece or display object. The bowl is signed in gold on one corner, as shown. Dimensions: 9 7/8" W x 9 7/8" D x 3" H Condition: Very good vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. There may be extremely light wear consistent with age, though it is not readily apparent.

Aureliano Toso 'Attributed' Murano Art Glass Bowl, 1950s

By Aureliano Toso, Dino Martens

Aureliano Toso (attr.) Murano Art Glass Bowl, 1950s A Murano glass bowl most probably manufactured by Vetreria Aureliano Toso and designed by Dino Martens circa 1950s. Blue transparent glass with mulitcoloured glass and silver foil inclusions. Coming from a family of Murano glassmakers, Aureliano Toso founded his own company in 1938. The collaboration with the painter and artist Dino Martens already showed the first successes at the XXIII Biennale di Venezia. Over the years, more daring creations followed, which, as with Pop Art, were clearly far ahead of their time. Later, the influence of artists like Gino Poli and Enrico Potz...
