About the Item

A captivating example of Venetian glassmaking at its most theatrical, this Murano glass tazza showcases the technical virtuosity and decorative exuberance for which the island's master glassblowers are celebrated. The wide, shallow coupe bowl is blown from clear glass suffused with gold aventurine flecks that catch the light across both the bowl and circular foot, creating a warm, shimmering effect characteristic of the finest Venetian production. The stem is the true focal point: a sculptural assembly of applied emerald and teal glass leaves and petals arranged around a central column, flanked by elegant swan-neck curved handles — a motif long associated with the Salviati glasshouse and its revival of Renaissance Venetian forms. Amber glass at the stem node and a jet black base element provide rich chromatic contrast, while teal banding traces the edges of both the bowl rim and foot. Attributed to Salviati, Venice, the piece reflects the firm's 19th to early 20th century tradition of producing elaborately decorated display glass that combined historical Venetian techniques with Victorian-era taste for ornament. An exceptional decorative object, equally at home displayed alone or as part of a collection of Venetian art glass.
