Circa 1870 Meiji era lacquer & papier mache box, Japan. Black with red divided interior. Painted with a fascinating scene of figures in a garden examining a miniature temple with holes to peer into. Minor split to one corner, the interior fairly worn with nibbles along the interior edges. 7 3/8" x 4 5/8" x 2" h.
