About the Item

20th century brown leather Royal Navy cordite carrier with good patina. The main body of the bucket is made of cork with a tan leather exterior and canvas interior. The sewn leather carry handle is fixed to the body by copper rivets. Made to carry cordite (gun powder), and also known as a Clarkson case. This bucket is stamped No.56 VI B.H. & G. Ltd 1-1942 on the underside. B.H.& G. Ltd shows it was made by Barrow, Hepburn & Gale of Bermondsey, London. The 'N' indicates Navy and the "broad arrow" mark was used to show they were the property of the Board of Ordnance or Government department. There are the remains of the Royal Coat Of Arms transfer to the front.
