About the Item

A lovely vanity box crafted out of Calamander with brass inlay. It is by the prestigious British firm Sampson Mordan & Co of London. The utensils feature mother of pearl handles and the tops of the bottles are Sterling Silevr and hallmarked for London and 1854. The set appears complete and is in good condition except some of the teeth of the comb are broken. The box itself is in good condition except there is a crack to the top, pictured. Some fading to the back veneer as well. The box is marked S. Mordan & Co London on the lock along with Patent pending.

Of compact rectangular form, the Jewellery Box is mounted with sterling silver corner straps, matching barrel escutcheon and an engraved silver plaque to the lid bearing the crest of the Pauncefort-Duncombe family above the Latin motto “DEO REGI PATRIAE” translating as “For God, King and Country”.
