About the Item

Signed Giuliano Tosi Murano glass candlestick in emerald sommerso glass, faceted by hand and dated 2001 — a sculptural piece by one of Murano's most celebrated masters. The tall, sinuous form rises and curves in a single fluid movement, tilting slightly off-axis as it narrows toward the summit — animated in a way that reads as sculpture as much as object. The vivid emerald core is submerged within thick colorless glass in the classic sommerso manner — blown, then hand-faceted to produce the flat, light-refracting planes that define the exterior. The effect is layered and luminous: color deepens toward the center while the cut surfaces scatter light in every direction. A polished metal disc and taper spike complete the top. Engraved with the artist's signature on the bottom side as well as Murano 2001 on the base. About Maestro Giuliano Tosi Giuliano Tosi began working with glass at age 12 on the island of Murano, apprenticed under the revered Master Albino Carrara, who recognized his exceptional ability by gifting him his own corteo — the traditional glass-cutting tool that marks a master's passage. Tosi established his own studio in 1973 and is credited with introducing the technique of external sbruffi into the furnaces, producing the distinctive graduated color effects characteristic of his work. His pieces have been exhibited in galleries in Milan's fashion district, Chicago, and New York, and held in a Los Angeles museum collection.
