About the Item

Victorian heart shaped silver strut timepiece with foliate decoration. Brass bezel with hatched decoration, enamel dial with Roman numerals, original gilded hands and a subsidiary dial for seconds at six o’clock. The case hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 / 1900 also marked for the Douglas clock company, Birmingham. Thirty hour movement with platform escapement. C.1899 ‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists the Douglas clock company as working in Birmingham from 1896 to 1899 and later.
