About the Item

Large Hardwood Sculpture by Krekel van Spronsen (1948–2011), The Netherlands 1970s. The work displays a beautiful interaction of half circles, with a strong architectural presence. The sculpture suggests a sense of movement through its off-centre arrangement, while at the same time conveying calmness through its monumental circular forms. Through the careful arrangement of simple volumes, Van Spronsen achieves a striking interplay of rhythm, repetition, balance, and proportion. Krekel van Spronsen's oeuvre is closely associated with geometric abstraction. Throughout her career, she explored the relationship between elementary forms, often using the circle as a point of departure, either as an autonomous shape or as a form constructed through segmentation and displacement. Her work is characterised by a continuous search for harmony between structure, movement, and spatial perception. The dark, warm toned hardwood displays beautiful linear grain patterns. Preserved in excellent original condition.
