About the Item

Large Iroko Wood Totem Sculpture by Krekel van Spronsen, The Netherlands 1970s. The work displays a beautifully balanced rhythm of stacked geometric and constructivist forms, creating a powerful vertical composition with a strong architectural presence. Through the careful arrangement of simple volumes, Van Spronsen achieves a striking interplay of rhythm, repetition, balance, and proportion. Krekel van Spronsen's oeuvre is closely associated with geometric abstraction. Throughout her career, she explored the relationship between elementary forms, often using the circle as a point of departure, either as an autonomous shape or as a form constructed through segmentation and displacement. Her work is characterized by a continuous search for harmony between structure, movement, and spatial perception. The warm solid Iroko wood displays beautiful linear grain patterns, adding a natural and tactile quality that enhances the dialogue between geometry and craftsmanship.
