Pair of Italian Mid-Century Modern Glazed Pottery Zebra Sculptures in the Style of Raymor A whimsical and highly decorative pair of Italian glazed pottery zebra sculptures, created in the style of the imaginative ceramic designs imported by Raymor during the mid-20th century. Rendered with exaggerated proportions and a playful, sculptural presence, each zebra features a compact, rounded body, expressive facial features, and boldly articulated black stripes flowing continuously across the form. Executed in earthenware with a creamy white glaze overlaid by hand-applied black striping, the figures possess the spontaneous character associated with Italian studio ceramics of the 1950s through 1970s. The slightly irregular lines, visible craquelure, and richly glazed surfaces emphasize their handmade nature while enhancing their graphic visual appeal. The treatment of the mane, eyes, and muzzle demonstrates a charming balance between folk-art whimsy and sophisticated modern design. These sculptures reflect the growing fascination with exotic animal forms that emerged in Italian decorative arts during the postwar period.
