Pair antique hand turned Awaji Pottery ginger jars in fantastic turquoise monochrome glaze, circa 1920's. 10" high, 8" diameter. Impressed marks. Excellent condition.

This unusual garniture was made in France and is marked correspondingly by the pottery company Alexander Bigot. Created from hand shaped terracotta which has been glazed then hand painted in gold and polychrome colors. The painting is done in the Egyptian taste and features acanthus leaves, scarabs, papyrus leaves and armed soldiers which are shown in a left and right posture making this a true set. A Garniture de Chemineé in the Louis XVI taste By Arnold & Lewis (late Simmons) The mantle clock, and its two matched vases, are constructed in jewelled 'Sèvres' style porcelain, hand and polychrome decorated, with gilt highlights and finely gilt bronze.
