About the Item

A striking vintage Chinese porcelain ginger jar or covered baluster vase, distinguished by its beautiful aqua celadon glaze and sculptural Foo Dog, or guardian lion, finial. The substantial baluster-shaped body is finished in a luminous blue-green glaze with an intricate crackle effect extending across the surface. The restrained monochromatic treatment emphasises the elegant proportions of the vessel while providing the distinctive textural character associated with traditional celadon-inspired ceramics. The domed lid is surmounted by a finely modelled Chinese guardian lion, providing an architectural and highly decorative finishing detail. At approximately 19 inches tall, the jar has considerable presence and works particularly well as a standalone decorative object on a console, pedestal or sideboard. A handsome example of Chinese-inspired decorative porcelain combining traditional forms with an appealing and versatile colour palette.
