This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a plain bell shaped form onto a waisted pedestal, to a circular spreading foot. The surface of the antique silver goblet is plain and unembellished. The circular spreading foot is encircled with an applied border to the rim and ornamented with the contemporary engraved crest of griffin's head erased and collared by a coronet. This is a very good hand-blown, English, mid-Georgian, Wine drinking glass with a round funnel (RF) engraved bowl on a solid stem, dating to the middle of the 18th century, circa 1760. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The RF (round funnel) bowl is well engraved with OXO under rim and a facet cut bowl base, sitting on a a solid stem, over a conical foot with a snapped off pontil below to the underside. The foot has an under rim edge chip but is otherwise very good with on evidence of restoration. (NOTE: We do not normally buy Georgian wine glasses...

Antique early-20th Century English solid silver and mounted on Spode Copeland's China novelty wine jug, in the form of a standing cockatoo, set with coloured glass eyes and white porcelain body imitating textured plumage, mounted with a realistically modelled silver head and feet. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), Sheffield, year 1912 (u), Maker A&CoLt (Asprey & Co Ltd). The world-famous English luxury manufacturer and retailer Asprey & Co started as a small silk printing business by William Asprey in Mitcham, Surrey. Soon the company largely expanded its offering by purchasing some other firms. By 1847 Asprey moved to its iconic premises at New Bond Street in London and established its flagship store, where one could buy all ranges of exquisite goods, from books to dressing cases with silver details. At the International Exhibition in 1862, Asprey high-quality dressing cases won a gold medal, which brought the company a worldwide reputation for exquisite craftsmanship. The Royal Warrant, which was awarded by her Majesty Queen Victoria the same year, just perpetuated that reputation. Since then, Asprey has received a Royal Warrant from every British monarch. Besides dressing cases, the company produced and retailed a wide range of exclusive goods, including silver, gold, jewelry, stationery, cutlery, tableware, etc. In the 20th century, commissions poured from all over the world and by the 1920s Asprey created them not only for British Royalty, but for foreign Royals and heads of states as well. The most sensational orders of all were the exquisite pearl necklace for Queen Mary and the teak and silver traveling trunks for the five beloved wives of the Maharaja of Patiala. The 20s and 30s were the golden era of the Art Deco style, of which Asprey was a big adopter, many of its luxury goods from that time became iconic, such as Asprey cigarette cases...

This is a very good PAIR of large diameter Antique Wine Bottle Coasters, made from Sterling Silver and Sheffield Plate, dating to Circa 1790, George 111rd, Regency period.. The design of antique wine coasters follows the style of the period that they were made, in with this set being circular, plainer and less fussy, dating them to Circa 1790. They all tended to follow the basic design of a circular gallery with a turned hard-wood base, having a central silver button for crests or monograms, and a baize-covered base. They were always made in sets, normally as pairs, just like this set. The main body is made from Sheffield plate, which is worn in places, adding to its charm and authenticity in our view, with the central monogrammed button and the four applied leaf borders on the top rim being sterling silver. Another advantage of this set is the large internal diameter of about 4~5/8 inches, allowing for larger bottles such as champagne bottles to sit in the coasters. We cannot find any makers marks on either coaster. Overall a very good antique set of large Georgian wine coasters...
