About the Item

A large, important, and early sterling silver Georg Jensen samovar, design #88 by Georg Jensen, dating to 1915. The condition of this exceptional piece is as fine as one could hope for, showing only minimal signs of use. Remarkably, all ebony elements remain in excellent condition with no cracks or restorations. The samovar features a large organic bean shaped body supported by three elegantly curved legs, each adorned with silver ball decoration. The base of each leg terminates in an acorn form mount resting upon a hand chased circular peg fitted with finely hand carved ebony feet. The three legs are joined at the center by branch like supports which hold the intricately crafted burner. The oil burner retains its removable top, fitted with a hinged finial that opens by turning the beaded wheel mechanism. The elongated spout is hand chased with floral motifs and fitted with a beautifully hand carved floral ebony handle to insulate against heat. Beneath the handle is a Blossom pattern floral collar secured with the original square silver screw. Turning the mechanism opens and closes the liquid flow. The body is fitted with two large opposing wing shaped handles of carved ebony mounted to elongated silver supports. The domed lid, crowned with another carved ebony finial, is decorated with delicate silver inlaid floral work. This extraordinary work would have taken months to fabricate and stands as a true Georg Jensen masterpiece, demonstrating the unparalleled craftsmanship of the early Jensen workshop. All items have been professionally polished by Georg Jensen trained silversmith and are in excellent condition.
