About the Item

Sculptural ceramic vase from the renowned pottery center of Vallauris, France features an asymmetrical form with flowing, organic edges and a pinched spout opening. Gray volcanic-textured glaze covers the body while a vibrant orange-red starburst radiates across the front surface with incised linear detailing. Double handles emerge from the sides, emphasizing the piece's three-dimensional quality. Vallauris pottery studios gained international recognition in the postwar period for experimental glazing techniques and biomorphic forms that reflected contemporary artistic movements. The fat lava glaze technique creates the characteristic rough, crystalline surface texture seen here. The unmarked base suggests production by one of the town's many independent artisan workshops rather than a large manufacturer. Vase shows wear consistent with age and use. Original condition maintained.
