About the Item

A set of four English Flow Blue Plates, in the Conway pattern, by New Wharf Pottery, circa late 1880s – early 1890s. The New Wharf Pottery Company was located at Navigation Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, operating from 1878 until 1894. The name New Wharf was derived from the Wharf that was built on the nearby Burslem Branch of the Trent & Mersey canal at that time. The Conway Pattern is made in Semi-Porcelain and shows a stylized floral, geometric pattern radiating out from a central medallion towards the outer rim. The pattern has a shaped rim with a raised and molded border. The flow of the blue glaze varies from plate to plate. Makers marks showing the Staffordshire knot and crown, and the pattern name. 9.25 inches in diameter x 1 inch high In very good antique condition. One plate has a rim sliver on the verso, unseen on the front.
