About the Item

This large mid-19th century French Napoleon III period hand painted metal tole tray features a central marine scene with sailors stranded on a rock and a ship in the background. Surrounding the central image is a border of gold painted leaves on a red surface. The tray has two handles fitted into its raised rim. A handsome serving piece that could also serve as a unique wall decoration, circa 1860.
