About the Item

Antique Japanese basket called "Tangara", made for coal miners to gather and carry the smaller piece of coals. Materials are carefully chosen for carrying heavy rocks - Handwoven with Akebi vine & birch bark, using a pair of thick bifurcating branch of Nara oak for the main structural frames, combined 2 branches with Keyaki zelkova plate. Each materials are known for their durability, giving extra strength to the basket more than the look. On the back, rice straw mat is attached for the backing.
