About the Item

This 1950s industrial cage pendant light was manufactured by Killark and originally served aboard a U.S. naval warship during the Cold War. Founded in St. Louis in 1913, Killark became internationally respected for producing explosion-proof and hazardous-duty lighting for military, marine, and heavy industrial applications. Engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of life at sea, the fixture features a substantial polished aluminium gallery bearing cast manufacturer markings and surviving technical labels, characteristic of mid-century American naval engineering. The white enamelled steel shade shows gentle surface patina consistent with decades of service, while the thick glass well is enclosed within a robust steel protective cage, a defining feature of industrial cage lights designed for maximum durability and safety. Lights of this type were typically installed in machinery spaces, passageways, and ammunition areas aboard naval vessels, where consistent performance was essential under constant vibration, salt exposure, and elevated temperatures. Every element of the design reflects a functional, no-compromise approach to lighting in demanding environments. The pendant measures approximately 355 mm in diameter. It has been professionally rewired with new CE-certified components, with UL-listed wiring available for use in the United States. Supplied with a ceiling suspension kit allowing for a 100 cm drop from ceiling to base of fixture; longer drop lengths can be accommodated on request.

1930s German Art Deco Opaline Pendant Light with Original Chrome Gallery

1930s German Art Deco Opaline Pendant Light with Original Chrome Gallery

Located in Leicester, Leicestershire

These elegant Art Deco opaline glass pendant lights were manufactured in Germany in the 1930s, a period celebrated for its refined industrial design and the rise of modernist lighting across Europe. Salvaged from a pre-war public building in central Germany, each piece reflects the country’s reputation for meticulous glassmaking and precision metalwork during the interwar years. The hand-blown opaline glass shade is classic to early 20th-century German design—an open-bottomed form that produces a beautifully soft, diffused glow while directing a gentle pool of light downward. Its smooth, double-layered form was engineered to provide even illumination in large communal interiors such as schools, civic halls and municipal offices. Retaining its original chrome-plated gallery, the pendant shows the clean geometry and functional detailing typical of German Art Deco lighting...
