About the Item

Spanish Cubist ceramic table lamp by Alfonso Otero Regal — a bold face design in navy brushwork and sgraffito on an off-white ground, with terracotta accents. Paired with a bespoke navy trapezoid lamp shade with a calligraphic print. Newly wired for U.S. use. International plug customization available at no charge. Height includes lampshade. The ceramic base has an unusual pyramidal form — wide and dramatically tapered, with a low center of gravity unlike any standard vase shape. The decoration is painted freehand on the ceramic surface: an abstracted face in bold navy brushwork and sgraffito, with two circular terracotta accents — a unique composition. Otero Regal trained first as a painter before turning to ceramics, and the distinction shows. His approach to a ceramic surface is a painter's approach — gestural, unrepeated, compositional — inspired by Picasso and Guayasamín, who both built their most powerful work around the human face. About Alfonso Otero Regal Alfonso Otero Regal (b. 1952) trained first as a painter — at the Massana School in Barcelona and privately in Mondoñedo — before studying ceramics at the Seminary of Ceramic Studies in Sargadelos and with Catalan master ceramicist Antoni Cumella. This dual formation defines his practice: each piece is a painted composition, freely executed on the ceramic surface. His studio, Regal Cerámica, has operated in Viveiro, Lugo since the 1970s. His work is held in museums and private collections in Spain, Europe, the United States, and Japan. He received Spain's Premio Nacional de Artesanía in 2011. About Amitābha Studio Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades — often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics — and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
