About the Item

This exquisite three-light Bouillotte lamp is a quintessential example of French Neoclassical design, combining the rigorous elegance of the Empire style with the world-renowned craftsmanship attributed to Maison Christofle, France. Design & Craftsmanship The lamp features a solid bronze body with a thick silver-plated finish. The base is designed in a sophisticated trefoil (clover) shape, supporting three scrolled candle arms ending in gadrooned biche sockets. The central fluted shaft is topped with a decorative ring finial, quintessential for "Bouillotte" lamps originally used on gaming tables. Maker Marks: The base is stamped with the official Christofle square hallmark featuring a rabbit, the initials "C F" for "Christofle France", and the mention "PLAQUE", certifying its origin and high-quality silver plating. Lampshade: A classic truncated conical shade in navy blue lacquered sheet metal (tôle). The interior is finished in white to provide a warm, reflected glow. It features a heart-shaped tension screw, allowing for height adjustment to control light intensity. Technical Details Period: Mid-20th Century Materials: Silver-plated bronze, lacquered steel (Tôle). Light Sources: 3 lights, fitted with E14 sockets (small screw-in bulbs). Candle Sleeves: Ornate faux-wax "dripping" candle covers. Dimensions: * Total Height: 21.6 inches (55 cm) Base Diameter: 6.7 inches (17 cm) Shade Diameter: 7.5 to 10.6 inches (19 cm to 27 cm) Adjustability: Shade height is adjustable from 9.8 to 17.7 inches (25 cm to 45 cm). Condition Report This piece is in good vintage condition. It retains a beautiful authentic patina with light signs of wear and age-related oxidation on the silver plating, which adds to its character. The lacquer on the shade shows minor surface marks consistent with age and use. The wiring is functional and ready for use. Restoration Note: Please note that one of the three screws securing the tôle shade to its frame has been replaced and is not original. This is a discreet replacement that does not affect the lamp's structural integrity or its elegant silhouette. Styling Tip: This lamp is a perfect statement piece for an executive desk, a library table, or a transitionally styled console. Its adjustable shade makes it as practical as it is decorative.
