About Charles Dudouyt (1885–1946) Charles Dudouyt was one of the most influential French designers of the Art Deco and early modernist eras. Trained at the École Germain Pilon in Paris, he began his career as a painter and illustrator before turning to furniture design in the 1920s. Dudouyt quickly became known for his bold, architectural forms and his masterful use of solid woods, often enriched with hand-carved motifs, geometric reliefs, and rustic-modern textures. In 1933, he founded La Gentilhommière, his own workshop producing furniture, lighting, and decorative objects distinguished by their craftsmanship and sculptural presence. His work blends Art Deco structure with a warm, organic sensibility—an aesthetic that continues to appeal strongly to modern collectors. Dudouyt’s designs, especially his carved lamps, armchairs, and sideboards, remain highly sought after for their timeless modernity, tactile surfaces, and unmistakable character. This lamp, with its pronounced carving and strong decorative power, perfectly embodies his enduring influence.

A museum-quality example of French Art Deco lighting, ideal for collectors of Degué glass, Edouard Cazaux designs, and 1920s decorative arts. Born in Turkey to Spanish Jewish parents, Guéron settled in France after serving in the French Foreign Legion during World War I. Following the success of the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, he established his glassworks in Compiègne, later opening Verrerie d’Art Degué in Paris. Degué became renowned for his innovative cameo glass, internally decorated vessels, sandblasted monochrome designs, and dramatic lighting fixtures.
