About the Item

Rare and romantic handcrafted midcentury alabaster table lamp with Cupid, heart and arrow motif. This beautifully made alabaster lamp dates from the midcentury period and it is entirely created in natural stone. The circular alabaster back plate, with its striking grey and black mineral veins, forms the perfect background for the charming sculptural scene in front. A little Cupid figure is shown with his bow, aiming at a heart pierced by an arrow. The subject is romantic, playful and symbolic, but thanks to the natural quality of the alabaster and the hand-crafted details, this lamp also has a refined and artistic presence. What makes this piece especially attractive is the wonderful contrast between the different tones of alabaster. The mainly white circular back, the warm honey-coloured details, the beautifully carved Cupid and the warmer base all work together in a very decorative and harmonious way. Even when the lamp is not switched on, it is a joy to look at. With the light on, the alabaster becomes warmer and more atmospheric, creating exactly the kind of soft and intimate light that makes antique and vintage alabaster lighting so desirable.
