Backgammon Roarshax Wood Case with Glass Chips and Dice

By Orfeo Quagliata

Located in Naucalpan, Edo de Mex

Backgammon is a very old strategic board game, from which its origin is still undefined. A true Classic game about tactics and luck played around the globe. Taking this Classic as inspiration, Orfeo collaboration joined skills to create a board game with stimulating materials and astounding chips. Shined a spotlight on to the raw materials used to create it. The exterior of the board is composed of two elements, a metalic box and a thinly sliced oyster cut veneer of parota wood. The oysters are sourced from reclaimed branches of these gigantic trees; a material that is commonly discarded as fire wood given the difficulties of processing it. Underneath the wood they have used a single sheet of meticulously oxidized metal that is laser cut to size, then assembled into a box by one of their master craftsmen. Opening the chest you’ll find a treasure of glass checkers and dice handmade by Orfeo Quagliata’s artisans. Orfeo takes his most interesting glass techniques to apply them to all the chips in the game. The checkers are manufactured in two different processes. The "Barcodes" technique is a fine linear design with schemes of different colors that contrast between one competitor and another. Thin strips of different colored glass are placed next to each other and then fused into a single piece, from which circular pieces are drilled, ground and hand polished to form the chip. The more sober and bitone "Roarshax" technique presents an electrifying texture on the top of a transparent body. Meanwhile the dice are solid glass cubes...

1930's Art Deco Poker Chip Set in Wood Hexagonal Box Removable Caddy with Key

Located in Red Lion, PA

1930s Art Deco Poker Chip Set in Hexagonal Wooden Box with Removable Caddy and Key This exceptional 1930s Art Deco poker chip set comes housed in a beautifully crafted hexagonal wooden box with a functional locking mechanism and its original key. The box features a hinged lid, four metal tack feet, and a black-lined base. The interior is lined with a vibrant kelly green velvet on the upper lid, adding a touch of luxury and period charm. At the heart of the set is a removable wooden caddy with a polished chrome handle, designed to slide easily in and out of the box. The caddy includes two card compartments (perfectly sized for standard decks) and eight cylindrical compartments that hold the included clay poker chips. The set is complete with red, white, and blue clay chips, valued for their satisfying weight and smooth texture. The bottom of the box mirrors the same rich, dark wood of the exterior, creating a seamless and elegant presentation. Condition: Light general wear consistent with age, but overall in beautiful vintage condition. The set is ready to be enjoyed today or displayed as a remarkable piece of 1930s gaming history, just add your favorite decks of cards and gather for poker night. During the 1930s, card games like poker, bridge, and rummy were among the most popular forms of home entertainment. With the backdrop of the Great Depression, gaming sets became a stylish yet accessible form of leisure, often enjoyed at social gatherings. The Art Deco period emphasized bold geometric designs, fine craftsmanship, and the integration of luxury into everyday objects. Gaming sets from this era reflect not only the pastime of the day but also the era’s focus on design and elegance. Art Deco games and poker chip sets are highly sought after by collectors of Art Deco antiques, tobacciana, gambling memorabilia, and vintage gaming accessories. This set is a superb example of 1930s craftsmanship, blending functionality with Art Deco style. Its complete chip set, original caddy, and working key make it especially rare and desirable. It sits comfortably alongside collectible sets from luxury makers and would appeal to enthusiasts of vintage card games...
