Rare American advertising “The Swan Pen” by Mabie. Todd & Co A rare example of an early-20th century American shop advertising display. In the form of an oversized hand-crafted wooden pen with brass tip. With its original metal fixtures and braided hanging rope still in place. This example is rare not only due to its condition and form but simply because of its size standing 40 inches tall. The company originated in America from the beginnings during the 1860s when a Mr. Todd and a Mr. Mabie began making pencil cases and pen holders in New York. Later they were joined by the Bard Brothers who made Gold nibs and by 1873 the company of Mabie Todd and Bard were established in New York. Size in inches: H 40” x W 2.5” x D 2.5” Completely solid in structure, aged surface as shown with a deep natural patina. 19th century pair of miniature taxidermy dogs Completely in original condition, this pair of Victorian taxidermy miniature dogs are housed under their original glass display domes. Both examples are stood on reupholstered red velour material and support bases, recently uncovered in a UK estate auction sale as part of a large taxidermy collection. Size in inches: large dome H 7.5” x W 11” x D 6” Small dome H 6.5” x W 9” x D 5” Size in inches: large dog H 4.5” x W 6” x D 2” Small dog H 3” x W 6” x D 1” Completely solid in structure and form, with natural wear and tear due to age. The smaller dog has a few surfaces tear as shown, both rear paws are missing on the larger example. Aged surface as you would expect, these are original example and not the terrible examples of pups that are sometimes used distastefully.
