A beautifully tailored and exceptionally inviting pair of French Louis XVI-style bergère armchairs dating to the 1950s, distinguished by their elegant cream-painted frames, generous proportions, and sophisticated coral-pink patterned upholstery. Combining the architectural refinement of French neoclassical furniture with the comfort expected of a mid-20th-century lounge chair, this handsome pair offers an appealing balance of formality, softness, and everyday usability. Each chair features a beautifully shaped cream-painted wooden frame, executed in the restrained classical vocabulary associated with the Louis XVI period. The pale painted finish has a soft, gently aged appearance that complements the upholstery particularly well. Subtle variations and signs of age within the cream surface give the frames character without detracting from their overall presentation. The chairs appear to be in good overall condition, retaining an attractive and well-cared-for appearance. The tall, slightly reclined rectangular backs provide an elegant architectural foundation for the chairs. Their frames flow gracefully into upholstered sides and gently shaped arms, each fitted with a comfortable padded armrest. Each chair is furnished with a substantial loose seat cushion as well as an additional loose back cushion, creating a layered, exceptionally comfortable seating arrangement. The extra back cushions are generously filled and carefully tailored, softening the more formal Louis XVI framework and making these chairs particularly suitable for relaxed seating. Coordinating upholstery continues across the inside and outside arms, seat deck, back, and padded armrests, resulting in a polished and thoughtfully finished appearance from multiple angles.
