About the Item

Paolo Pallucco 100 sedie in una notte, Sedia 6- Sedia da temporale fulminata alle spalle, 1990 Numéroté, signé "p.pallucco" et tampon sous l'assise 3/4 Bois peint en noir H. 98 x L. 42 x P. 110 cm H. 38 5/8 x W. 16 1/2 x D. 43 1/4 in. In 1990, after a decade of creating spectacular designs, Italian designer Paolo Pallucco envisioned one hundred chairs as his final project. These chairs were inspired by the verses of Rainer Maria Rilke, specifically: « But he broke the rind of pain into pieces and stretched high his hands, as if to hold back the fleeing god. Years he asked, only a year yet of youth, months, a few days, ah, not days, but nights, just one, just one night, this night: this. » Each chair was based on a simple black wooden chair with a sculptural twist. According to Pallucco’s own account, he sketched all of them in a single night. The chairs were displayed in 1990 at the renowned Mazzoli Gallery in Modena and produced in a limited edition of four. Italian writer Achille Bonito Oliva named each chair. Each chair was produced in an edition of 4 pieces, stamped and numbered just like a sculpture. Leading to a total production of a hundred pieces. The impact of this remarkable project can be observed in the work of designers like Martino Gamper or Nendo.
