About the Item

This outstanding Italian Mid-Century sideboard was designed by La Permanente Mobili Cantù and stands as a highly expressive example of refined Italian design from the mid-20th century. Its distinctive character is defined by the sculptural and unconventional composition of the teak wood cabinets, elegantly crowned by a long, seemingly suspended marble top, creating a striking architectural presence. Three of the doors are finished with ebonized grissinatura detailing, a sophisticated decorative technique typical of high-end Italian production, while the beautifully crafted solid brass handles are notable for their unique and sculptural form. The sideboard also features two small framed brass plaques, intentionally left available for customization, allowing them to be decorated or painted with subjects of the owner’s choice—an unusual and highly personalizable design element. The interior compartments are equally refined, finished in maple wood and fitted with shelves. Together with the six drawers, they provide generous and well-organized storage capacity. Behind the two central doors, an elegant concealed bar compartment is revealed, complete with glass shelves and mirrored side panels. Two small drawers are positioned in the upper section, topped with a superb scarlet red glass detail that becomes particularly striking when the internal light automatically illuminates upon opening the doors. The piece is in very good vintage condition, as documented in the photographs. It shows no structural damage and no evidence of previous restorations. All exterior wooden surfaces have been professionally polished using traditional shellac, enhancing the depth and richness of the materials. Ready for immediate use, this sideboard represents a statement piece of Italian Mid-Century design, capable of elevating high-end residential interiors, executive offices, or curated design projects where authenticity, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance are essential.
