About the Item

A handsome English mahogany side table dating to the early to mid-20th century, incorporating traditional Georgian details in a particularly useful, compact form. The rectangular mahogany top is punctuated by small raised corner blocks and rests above a single frieze drawer fitted with decorative brass ring pulls. Slender turned supports connect the upper section to a generous lower shelf, while turned feet terminate in brass casters. The restrained detailing allows the rich color and grain of the mahogany to take center stage. Originally conceived in the tradition of an English bedside table, the piece translates particularly well to contemporary interiors. Its two-tier construction makes it an excellent bedside table, drinks table, or occasional table beside a sofa or chair. The mahogany retains a warm, well-developed finish with minor wear and variations consistent with age and use.
