About the Item

Fabulous abstract screenprint framed artwork by the British artist Patrick Heron, titled "January 1973: 14". Screen printed by hand and published by Tate Galleries in the UK. In an unnumbered limited edition. It is part of a series of graphic abstract prints known for their vibrant, contrasting colors and organic shapes. Works from this series, such as this one, were produced in limited editions, commonly 72 or 100 prints. The artwork features a complex arrangement of organic, irregular shapes that fit together like a puzzle. The piece relies on intense, saturated blocks of color that create high visual contrast. The featured colors are orange, blue, dark purple, magenta, emerald green, and golden yellow. The bottom border of the white gallery-style mat displays the artist's name and the institution in clean, spaced, black capital letters reading "Patrick Heron. Tate" The art print is protected under plexiglass and housed in a professionally framed aluminum frame with a brushed brown finish. It features wooden stretcher bars with tension-adjusting corner wedges. This print is a breathtaking piece of collectible art. Tate is an institution that houses the United Kingdom's national collection of British art, alongside international modern and contemporary art. It is not a single museum, but rather a network of four major public art galleries across England. Patrick Heron (1920-1999) was one of the most prominent and influential British abstract artists and art critics of the post-war era. He is celebrated internationally for his vibrant exploration of pure color and light. He went on to study at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1937 to 1939. Heron began his career working in a semi-figurative style heavily inspired by French modernists like Henri Matisse and Georges Braque. By the mid-1950s, he abandoned representation entirely to focus purely on abstraction. Over his 60-year career, Heron won major awards like the John Moores Painting Prize and was appointed a CBE in 1977. Major retrospectives of his work have been housed at Tate Britain. Today, his masterpieces are preserved in elite institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
