James Henderson’s work explores the concept of memory and nostalgia. Utilizing found imagery as a starting point, he collages and layers his mixed media paintings. The inclusion of imagery from vintage photographs becomes Henderson’s visual language through which to depict the notion of how one’s past experiences, emotions and personal archeology greatly shape one’s identity. This is a beautiful layered, mixed media piece using acrylic ink, salt water and salt crystals, on unprocessed photographic paper. The video shows the salt crystals shimmering on the paper when light reflects off it. This piece conjures up a beautiful imaginary world. For example, salt crystallization has been used on found objects and encrusted on photo based works on paper. The salt crystallization process is similar to preserving some objects, while disintegrating others with time. Born and raised in The Hague in 1970, Nemo Jantzen then studied art, design and photography at the RTO in Rotterdam and moved to Antwerp to work as a creative director and billboard artist, while further developing his technique and style as a fine artist. Nemo Jantzen plays with focus, creating a sense of depth, thus bringing into question the act of voyeurism and the anticlimactic and revelatory nature of privacy. Born and raised in The Hague in 1970, Nemo Jantzen then studied art, design and photography at the RTO in Rotterdam and moved to Antwerp to work as a creative director and billboard artist, while further developing his technique and style as a fine artist.
