Abstract Color Field Lithograph in Pale Blue and Brown
Abstract Color Field Lithograph in Pale Blue and Brown

Abstract Color Field Lithograph in Pale Blue and Brown

By Will Peterson

Located in Soquel, CA

Abstract Color Field Lithograph in Pale Blue and Brown by American Beat artist Will Peterson (1928-1994.) This lithograph blends the linework and movement of abstract impressionism with a color field-esque composition. A long copper-brown rectangle shines through from the bottom layer of the colors. It is then crossed in multiple places by black linework and hatching. Around this shape a pale cornflower blue acts as a frame and crosses the brown shape in the center. The addition of the cool black and blue tones creates a sense of warmth in the underlying shape. Lithograph is printed on wove paper which is fixed to a larger piece of handmade paper containing the artists signature and a small embossing found on his other pieces from this time period. This paper is displayed on top of a linen covered board with sturdy wood edges and a plexiglass over over the entire piece. Will Peterson was born in Chicago in 1928 to German immigrant parents. He contracted Polio when he was in High School and thus spent much of his early years ill. During this time he started working as a cartoonist for his high school’s paper. He started his official art studies at Wilber Wright College in Chicago and later earned a BA and a MA at Michigan State University. Here he studied print making and lithography under John S. deMartelly. He began enjoying artistic success while still in graduate school, exhibiting at the Detroit Art Institute, the Terry Art Institute, the National Print Exhibition, and the Boston Printmakers. Peterson was drafted into the army in 1952 and thus spent time in Korea and Japan. His time as an educational specialist in Hokkaido was a formative experience for him and his interest in Japanese calligraphy and other arts influenced his later work. Upon returning to the United States, he moved to Oakland, California. He became involved with the beat movement and after founding the Bay Printmakers Society with fellow artist Mel Strawn...

Delicate Abstract Lithograph in Pale Blues and Greys

By Will Peterson

Located in Soquel, CA

Delicate Abstract Lithograph in Pale Blues and Greys by American Beat artist Will Peterson (1928-1994.) This lithograph features a soft warm grey background overlayed with light blue shading and line work. In the bottom center of the piece is a spiky white shape. The colors and shapes are subtle and feel reminiscent of ice. Richard Turner Two Ladies Arcadian Landscape Figurative Oil Painting
Richard Turner Two Ladies Arcadian Landscape Figurative Oil Painting

Richard Turner Two Ladies Arcadian Landscape Figurative Oil Painting

By Richard Turner

Located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Title Richard Turner Two Ladies Arcadian Landscape Figurative Oil Painting Key Details Artist: Richard Turner (British, 1940–2013) Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 20 x 24 inches Provenance: Not specified Condition: Very good condition Signature / Inscription: Signed, titled, and dated verso (2010) Description A figurative composition set within an Arcadian landscape, depicting two seated women arranged in a relaxed, intertwined pose. Turner simplifies the forms with a stylised approach, using bold outlines and flattened areas of colour to build the figures against a dreamlike backdrop of trees and water. The palette is bright and deliberately heightened, with warm yellows and reds set against cooler blues and greens, creating a sense of warmth and stillness within the scene. The composition has a decorative clarity that allows it to sit comfortably in a range of interiors. Its scale makes it well suited to a sitting room or bedroom, where the subject can be appreciated without overwhelming the space. The strong colour relationships work particularly well in interiors that favour art as a focal point, especially when paired with simpler furnishings that allow the painting to carry the visual interest. Turner’s work often draws on classical and Renaissance influences, reinterpreted through a more contemporary, postmodern lens. There is a quiet confidence in the way the figures are arranged, balancing narrative and form without overcomplication. Pieces such as this tend to appeal to collectors drawn to figurative work that sits slightly outside of strict tradition, offering something both familiar and distinct. Artist Note Richard Turner studied at the Royal College of Art in London, where he was taught by Carol Weight...

Untitled ("Motion-Sound" Landscape)

Untitled ("Motion-Sound" Landscape)

By Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Located in New York, NY

From a portfolio of ten gelatin silver prints from original Meatyard negatives (1959-71) Printed April 1974 Edition of 130 Credit stamp, verso 7 x 7 inches, image 15 x 12 inches, mount This artwork is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. “Meatyard searched continually for a non-objective art that would be wordless poetry, spontaneous music without sound. The ‘Motion-Sound’ pictures of his later years brought Meatyard’s passion for music and, paradoxically, the silence of Zen Buddhism together in photography. In creating the series, he focused the camera on a natural scene (or one containing plain rural architecture) and then moved it slightly. The result of this action is an image that suggests sound while abstracting natural forms. The landscapes of the ‘Motion-Sound’ series are in stark contrast to the evocative, more traditional views of the Red River Gorge that Meatyard was executing during the same years.” —Judith Keller, Ralph Eugene Meatyard (London: Phaidon Press Limited, 2002), p. 122 An optician by trade, Ralph Eugene Meatyard was a self-described “dedicated amateur” photographer. He pursued his own vision to produce an exquisitely enigmatic, widely admired body of work. Meatyard began taking photographs in 1950, roaming the backwoods and towns in Kentucky, experimenting with framing, multiple exposures, and blurring to produce haunting, abstracted images of natural and manmade environments. In the late 1950s, he began incorporating monstrous, oversized latex masks...

Colorful Lake Landscape with Reflections Post-Impressionist European Oil

By Rafael Duran Benet

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Colorful Lake Landscape with Reflections Post-Impressionist European Oil Painting Medium: Oil on canvas laid on board Dimensions (artwork) Height: 46 cm Width: 55 cm (18.12 × 21.66 in) Frame Frame included Frame size: Height 73 cm Width 81 cm (28.74 × 31.89 in) Signature: Signed lower right Condition: Very good condition. Stable paint layer and firm support Style: Post-Impressionist Subject: Landscape with lake reflections Vibrant post-impressionist landscape depicting a tranquil lake surrounded by trees and houses, animated by strong color contrasts and luminous reflections on the water. The composition is built through expressive brushwork and a lively palette of yellows, greens, blues and violet tones that give the painting a dynamic yet harmonious atmosphere. The reflective surface of the lake creates depth while guiding the viewer’s eye through the landscape. Paintings featuring water reflections and bright natural color are particularly appealing for collectors and interior designers because they bring light, movement and decorative strength to an interior space. With its balanced format, vivid palette and ready-to-hang framed presentation, this original oil painting offers both decorative impact and the charm of expressive European landscape painting. Rafael Durán Benet was a Spanish painter known for his expressive landscapes and post-impressionist approach to color. His work frequently focused on natural settings, light effects and water reflections, combining energetic brushwork with a bright and decorative palette. His paintings are appreciated by collectors of modern Spanish figurative art for their atmospheric character and visual vitality.
