About the Item

A striking pair of Italian ceramic vases by Fratelli Fanciullacci, produced in Italy during the 1960s. Designed as angular pitcher forms, these sculptural vessels exemplify the bold geometric language and expressive surface treatments characteristic of mid-century Italian studio ceramics. Each vase features a sharply faceted body with a pronounced angled handle and narrow tubular neck. The surfaces are richly worked, finished in a deep mottled blue glaze with expressive white inclusions over a dark ground. Raised gilt ceramic panels encircle the shoulders and lower body, creating strong architectural rhythm and visual contrast. Further decorative interest is introduced through finely incised sgraffito lines, scored vertically to echo the geometry of the gilded bands. The overall composition suggests influences drawn from Pre-Columbian or Aztec-inspired motifs, interpreted through a distinctly Italian modernist lens. Both vases are signed and numbered to the underside. Condition is good for their age, with some glaze and wear to handle visible to one example. This does not detract from the overall presentation.
