The Virgin Mary Cuff is handcrafted in solid sterling silver and 14k gold plated brass, an open bangle with a high relief Virgin Mary drawn from traditional French devotional medals. The silver figure reads against the gold plated frame in a two tone profile. It is an open cuff that can be gently adjusted to fit. Made to order.
The Virgin has been carried since ancient times as protection and as remembrance, the mother who points the way and shelters the one who carries her. Worn at the wrist rather than the throat, the sign sits at the hand that acts, a steadying presence kept where the work is done. The two metals hold silver and gold together, the lunar and the solar, the reflected light and the constant one, the pair that frames the figure between them.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. A multiple award winning designer highly recognised as an accessory and jewelry designer, her work has been featured in Vogue, W Magazine, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle across numerous countries, and carried by the world's most prestigious luxury stores including Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman, H Lorenzo, United Arrows, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Matches, and Harvey Nichols. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection, alignment and healing.
