48 STARS ON ANTIQUE AMERICAN FLAG WITH HAND-WRITTEN INSCRIPTIONS AND AN EMBROIDERED DATE OF APRIL 12TH, 1945, MOURNING THE DEATH OF PRESIDENT FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT: American national parade flag with 48 stars, printed on cotton, embellished with hand-written inscriptions and an embroidered date to commemorate the death of FDR on April 12th, 1945. “On this day in 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage at his Warm Springs, Georgia, retreat at the age of 63. Roosevelt’s death in the final months of World War II was met with shock and grief throughout the Western world. Many Americans had no inkling of his decline in health. Antique Hand-Stitched Southern Quilt, African American Folk Wall Art, 63" x 73"
Antique Hand-Stitched Southern Quilt, African American Folk Wall Art, 63" x 73"

Antique Hand-Stitched Southern Quilt, African American Folk Wall Art, 63" x 73"

Located in Barrington, IL

This beautiful hand-stitched quilt, dating to the American Civil War era (circa 1860–1870), originates from the deep South—likely Alabama or Georgia—and stands as a powerful example of African American folk artistry during one of the most pivotal periods in American history. Crafted from wool and homespun blankets, the quilt features a striking design of diagonally pieced squares composed of repurposed clothing in shades of navy, brown, red, and gray. These textiles are believed to be remnants of garments worn during the Civil War, transformed through necessity and creativity into a work of enduring beauty and cultural significance. The back of the quilt is made from a bold red and gray striped textile, adding a distinctive visual contrast. Quilts like this—made by African Americans in the Reconstruction-era South—are exceedingly rare and deeply meaningful. They embody both resilience and resourcefulness, and serve as powerful expressions of heritage, survival, and artistic identity. The attribution was provided by the previous owner, a Civil Rights attorney who practiced in Alabama and maintained an interest in collecting historically significant objects, including items associated with the Civil Rights Movement and the American South. No documentation, provenance records, or third-party authentication have been obtained to verify the quilt's origin beyond the information supplied by the previous owner. Dimensions: 63” x 73” Date of Manufacture: 3rd Quarter of the 1800s Place of Origin: United States Material: Cotton, wool Condition: Original condition with some wear throughout The Persian Knot Gallery, SKU: 1982 African American Quilts, Southern Quilts, Gee’s Bend Quilts, Alabama Quilts, 19th Century Quilts, African American Art, Antique African American Quilts, Vintage Raising Barn Quilt...

19th Century Pennsylvania Dutch Hand-Stitched Appliqué Quilt

Located in Barrington, IL

This exquisite 19th century Pennsylvania Dutch appliqué quilt, hand-stitched in Pennsylvania during the late 1800s, is a remarkable expression of American textile artistry and folk tradition. Executed in a charming floral pattern, the design features delicate red blossoms with gracefully rendered green stems and leaves, all set against a soft ivory ground that enhances the quilt’s refined, painterly quality. Each motif was individually cut and meticulously hand-appliquéd within framed panels, a process that required extraordinary patience, skill, and dedication. Quilts of this caliber were true labors of love, often created over many months, and today are highly sought after by collectors for their craftsmanship, historical significance, and visual elegance. Because of its delicacy and timeless beauty, this antique quilt is especially well suited for display as a wall-hung textile or tapestry. Ararat Rugs Dragon Rug, Antique Caucasus Museum Revival Carpet, Natural Dyed

By Ararat Rugs

Located in Tokyo, JP

There has long been a fascination with the symbolism of the dragon and its depiction in carpet weavings. The design of ‘Dragon’ carpets consists of a field pattern composed of different colored overlaid lattices formed of pointed, serrated leaves creating intersecting lozenges, which alternately contain palmettes and are flanked by confronting stylized dragons, birds, or animal figures. The most archaic of the ‘Dragon’ carpets include dragon motifs with birds and running animals relatively naturalistically drawn, which stand either alone or in confronting pairs facing a tree. The Graf carpet, originally found in a Damascene mosque, now in the Islamiches Museum, Berlin, is considered to be the oldest example of this type, see Serare Yetkin, Early Caucasian Carpets in Turkey, Vol. II, London, 1978, p.8, fig.118. Yetkin defines four types of ‘Dragon’ carpet: ‘Archaic’, ‘Four-Dragon’, ‘Dragon-and-Phoenix’ and as a further combined development of the latter, the ‘Two-Dragon’ style, of which the present carpet falls into the ‘Dragon-and-Phoenix group along with other examples, some of which include two fragments, one in the Museum fur Kunst und Gerwerbe, Hamburg; another in the Christian Museum, Esztergom, Hungary, a complete carpet in the Kier collection; an incomplete example in the Textile Museum, Washington, D.C; the ‘Cassirer’ Dragon carpet in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, Lugano; the Ali Pasa Mosque carpet in Tokat, and a further example in the Vakiflar Hali Museum, Istanbul (S. Yetkin, op. cit. pp.16-20). It has been suggested that the earliest examples of the Caucasian ‘Dragon’ carpets...
